BURLINGTON, Mass. -- A controversial sign about texting behind the wheel was recently posted in front of a Burlington church.
The sign said, "Love Jesus? To meet him now, text while driving."
"Someone from our own church had seen it the other day and was really encouraged by it. She thought it was great," said Diane Douglas, the church secretary.
But if you drive by the Burlington Church of Christ, you won't see it anymore, and it's not because of complaints, according to the church.
The church told 7NEWS they change their messages on the sign about every two weeks, and it was just time for a new one.
But, some folks didn't like the message the church was sending.
"That's pretty heavy. Basically they are saying you want to die to meet jesus, text," said one man.
"No, that's not too tasteful. I can think of a better way to word that. I just think people who have suffered loss from this issue would find it hurtful," said one woman.
"I find it totally inappropriate, totally inappropriate,” said another man.
Others thought it was a positive message.
"I am totally against texting while driving so I thought it was sort of a cute way to make that known,” said one woman.
"They are trying to set a point. You want to take a chance losing your life, so maybe it's a good point," said a man.
"It's clever, but it's kind of harsh," said another woman.
This is not the first church to post a similar message.
The secretary told 7NEWS she has read this message in other church bulletins.
